Dropped Pages is a series of poems that were originally dropped from my books and chapbooks. I have reclaimed them here.
left out of Her Red Book
On the Day of Silhouettes
Out the train window she sees cut-outs
mountains gulls
Man in rowboat fishing water like
something one can touch but not hold
defiantly
on the still lake she hears
the word “moon” from a child’s lips
and there it is
she practices looking w/out
naming now that love has surprised her
once again
she goes to church and sings
grateful for the roundness
of the choir
she picks this future
a calm fortress against the long hours of drive
ambition
the release tastes like a careless trip
honey
sunsets always remind her of sunsets
they replace each other that way
like the speed of conversation
between black cut-outs
kisses on the neck
preoccupied with the fragile
blood vein and the question of what is real
she stands guard beyond expectation
a kind of cross-check
like a night-light
like a raincoat
ride the train. it will vibrate your bum.
that’s a cool concept–dropped pages! and yes riding a train or a bike or even the dryer will vibrate your bum!
plus it’s a great TRAIN poem–you should add train to your tags of course!
love how it keeps riding back to love…and romance…hmmn you should send this out!
hey AP, thanks on all accounts. I’ve found some old poems worth editing. Good advice on the tags, you are very good at that sort of thing. I’m learning. 🙂
BANG!
An explosion unlike any you’ve ever witnessed.
Once the smoke clears…
It’s badass Lisa!
A present to Danika, sent by the universe, to teach her how to take the “bull by the horns” and NOT panic at the thought of giving up her sucky day job.
After all, my dear…
FAILURE IS NEVER AN OPTION.
Never.
Ever.
Did you hear that? Should I say it one more time?
NEVER!
You were put on this earth to write, Danika, and write you shall.
Not only will you write, you will also succeed.
Why?
Because failure is never an option.
If one door closes, then you open your eyes, pay attention, follow the clues, and FIND the next door.
It’s there.
It’s always there.
Thing is, you don’t ever get to find the “next” door until you’ve put in enough work.
So, Danika, keep on writing!
And if you don’t, I’m comin’ for you.
MU-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA
Lisa, I love you! You rock! Everyone should have a Badass Lisa in their lives.
(she’s not kidding when she says she’s coming for me if I stop writing… and she knows where I live!)
